Harry D. Bath was born in Portsmouth, England in 1947. After successfully passing the renowned „Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall“ in London with oboe as his main instrument, he moved to Germany as a military musician, where he stayed after completing his service. He got his bandmaster exam at the „Royal College of Music“ in London.
Particularly in the genre of symphonic wind music Harry D. Bath has an outstanding reputation. He served as the musical director of the Stadtkapelle Wernau am Neckar since 1971 and the Stadtkapelle Kirchheim unter Teck since 1974, where he was appointed municipal direcor of music. In 1986, he was appointed artistic director of the Federal Wind Orchestera (Landesblasorchester) of Baden-Württemberg, which he brought to international recognition during the 10 years of his appointment. In 2005, Bath was appointed musical director of the Tübinger Saxophon-Ensemble.
Countless awards at state, national and international levels and several well-received CD recordings attest the high artistic quality of his work. Engagements as a guest conductor with renowned orchesteas such as the Federal Wind Orchestra of Hessen or the South-West Wind Philharmonics as well as his collaboration with other reputable artists including Albert Mangelsdorff, Ack van Royen, and the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet further support this impression.
